Tenugui, Mameshibori

$ 5
This all-purpose cotton towel can be used as a lovely and auspicious hand towel, dishcloth, headscarf, or even a wrapping for gifts.

Mameshibori literally means “bean squeeze.” These towels are so named because the fabric resembles small beans that have been lined up and squeezed tightly before the cloth is dyed. The line of beans also symbolizes an uninterrupted line of descendants, so that mameshibori is expressive of an ardent wish for prosperity and a wish that one’s descendants will span generations to come.
