Watanabe Pile

Shuttle 1963 Bath Mat

$ 96

A soft underfoot with exceptional absorbency, the Shuttle 1963 Bath Mat transforms a daily routine into a moment of quiet comfort.

The Shuttle 1963 series is woven on an original shuttle loom that has been in continuous use in Imabari since Watanabe Pile’s founding in 1963. For more than sixty years, this loom has been carefully maintained and adjusted by skilled hands, its steady rhythm producing textiles with a density and character that cannot be replicated by modern machines. Through this deliberate process, artisans achieve a pile that is remarkably soft, absorbent, and rich in texture. Spun from San Joaquin long-staple cotton into a refined gray mélange yarn, each piece carries quiet depth and elegance—everyday essentials elevated through enduring craft.

The Bath Mat provides a thick, absorbent landing that offers comfort and reassurance with every step out of the bath.

Watanabe Pile

Founded in 1963 in Imabari, Watanabe Pile has dedicated itself to the craft of towel-making for over six decades. Imabari is renowned as the center of towel production, and Watanabe Pile has distinguished itself through a commitment to both tradition and thoughtful innovation.

Their philosophy is simple: to bring out the best in every material. By selecting cottons suited to each design, choosing finishing methods that are gentle on people and the environment, and paying close attention to every stage of production—from spinning and weaving to finishing and final design—they create textiles that maintain their softness and durability even with years of daily use.

At the heart of their work is respect for craft and for people. From artisans tending the looms to those who use the towels every day, Watanabe Pile continues to create not only towels, but a lasting sense of comfort and connection.
