Hasami Porcelain

Tall Bowl, Black

$ 30
Simple and unadorned, the pure, clean lines of these Hasami Porcelain pieces evoke Japan’s traditional forms, emphasizing beauty and innovation.

Created from porcelain made from natural Amakusa pottery stones mixed with potter's clay, the appeal of Hasami Porcelain lies in its textured feel on your lips and in your hands. This tall bowl is much more sleek and refined than earthenware, yet compared to ordinary porcelain its texture is pleasantly organic-feeling.
The elegant contours of this collection are inevitable byproducts of the insistence on functional designs and Hasami Porcelain’s unique production process. Mugs, bowls, and trays were designed with uniform diameters for easy stacking, streamlined storage, and convenient transport, while the tray becomes a lid for a bowl or a plate. The pieces can be used in a variety of settings, indoors or outdoors, and separately or as a set.

    With a four hundred-year history, Hasami in Nagasaki Prefecture is Japan's leading region for pottery. While traditional techniques and designs continue to be employed to this day, Taku Shinimoto, owner of a popular boutique in Venice, California, has lent his vision to these traditions in order to create innovative tableware with a modern twist.

    Due to its unglazed finish, the black collection may develop a unique patina over time from contact with oils from food, drinks, or hands. To manage patina and reduce stains:
    1. Apply a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to the affected area.
    2. Cover with a paper towel and let it sit for 1 hour.
    3. Rinse thoroughly with hot water and mild dish soap.
    Note: This may not fully remove the patina and some residue may remain.
