In collaboration with Hata Shikki, this Hasami Wooden Tea Canister is a perfect addition to complement your Hasami Porcelain collection. Following a standardized module created by Hasami Porcelain, this collection was designed to have uniform diameters for easy stacking, streamlined storage and transport. This Wooden Tea Canister, has a light but durable structure making it a perfect item to hold your tea as well as protecting the tea from being degraded by the light, air and humidity. The wood used for this Tea Canister has been cut with a technique that is unique to Hata Shikki, called “vertical cutting.” Cutting the wood vertically means to cut across the grain, giving it a nice textured feeling while making the wood look more attractive. In addition, it causes the wood to become less deformable and more shock absorbent than those that are horizontally cut, which is more commonly used with wood products.
Hata Shikki is a family owned company that was founded in 1930 in Ishikawa, Japan. Originally owned by Unomatsu Hata, it has now been passed down to his son Manabu Hata. They specialize in original handcrafted woodwork as well as lacquerware. Inspired by the beauty of nature and the love for handcrafted wood products, Hata Shikki thrives to create products that follow their philosophy, simple yet beautiful.
