A refined interpretation of the traditional wooden bath mat, crafted entirely from straight-grain Hinoki - revealing the rare purity and quiet elegance of its exceptional grain.
While honoring the essence of classic Japanese design, Masame introduces a subtle modernity through its clean geometry and balanced proportions. The result is a refined interpretation of the traditional sunoko form—grounded, minimal, and quietly contemporary.
Each mat is made entirely from masame (straight-grain) Hinoki - an exceptionally rare and luxurious choice seldom used for bath mats. The continuous, parallel grain brings an elevated sense of refinement, enhancing both visual harmony and structural integrity. Crafted with precision, it reveals a smooth, unified surface that celebrates the quiet beauty and purity of the wood itself.
Sourced from the sacred forests of the Kii Mountains, Hinoki is cherished for its smooth texture, warm tone, and gentle fragrance. Prized in Japan for centuries, this wood offers remarkable resistance to moisture and decay. Left uncoated to preserve its pure scent and luster, Hinoki lends a serene clarity to everyday rituals of bathing and renewal.

Care
Hinoki wood products are left uncoated to highlight their natural beauty, unique grain, and distinct fragrance. Regular care is essential to prevent mold and stains, especially when used in humid areas. With proper maintenance, you can enjoy the lasting charm of your Hinoki products for years.
• When washing, rinse with lukewarm water using a soft sponge. Avoid abrasive pads as they may cause fine scratches.
• If using detergent, choose a mild or neutral one. Harsh detergents can cause black stains and discoloration.
• After washing, wipe thoroughly with a dry cloth and allow the Hinoki to air dry in a well-ventilated, low-humidity area.
• Avoid exposing Hinoki to high temperatures or direct sunlight as this can cause cracking and warping.
• For tough stains, gently sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper.
• Hinoki's resin may surface, resulting in stickiness. If bothersome, clean with a neutral detergent or rubbing alcohol.
Important Note:
If you notice the bath mat starting to warp, wet both sides and stand it upright in a well-ventilated area, avoiding direct sunlight. This will reduce warping as both sides dry evenly.
